Celebrated Ghanaian dancehall and reggae artiste, Stonebwoy, christened Livingstone Etse Satekla contrary to popular opinion has disclosed that “Christ was the core foundation of his upbringing.”
Being very glad of being born to his parents, Stonebwoy said, “I grew up with my parents and siblings. My father will instil in you values whilst you get all the love from my mother. I also grew up a lot on the Bible.”
Sharing how intense his Christian upbringing was, he told Y107.9FM’s Rev Erskine on the YLeaderboard Series that, “you could be playing football and my dad will call you for Bible studies.”
Because his father was an elder in their church, Stonebwoy automatically had some responsibilities fall into his laps. “I sang and led Bible studies in church and at home”.
Attributing his love for reading to these Bible study lessons, he stated, “I am attracted to reading and learning more when I am on the internet. I am basically learning all the time.”
He however lost touch with the church after his father faced some difficulties and he (Stonebwoy) and his family needed to survive. “It was at this point that I wanted to explore outside the Christian box and to feel a bit freer so I think that was what informed my step out.”
According to the musician, he became a very stubborn boy at some point in life when he needed to hustle on his own due to his father’s tight situation and although most people around him did not like his switch, he could see where he was headed.
