Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu South, Fifi Fiavi Franklin Kwetey, has argued that Africa’s many problems can only be solved through a mindset change.
According to him, politics is not the real problems of the continent.
“Until Africans start to change our mindset, this continent will continue to sink no matter how many times we change our leaders. We can change our leaders constantly but we will still face the same problems,” he shared with Rev Erskine on the YLeaderboard Series aired on Y107.9FM’s ‘Myd Morning Radio Show’.
The politician posits that until the value system, mindset and culture of Africans are changed, progress and development will be lacking.
“One reason the continent is not growing is our engraved sense of entitlement. We think somebody owes us and that is wrong. We get angry when no one does anything for us,” he stated.
He charged Africa to rise up and fight for itself, describing all external financial support as bonuses. “Until we do that, the transformation of the continent may not happen. If we think someone owes us as a continent then we will not go anywhere.”
Until political parties are able to see past their differences and identify causes of Africa’s backwardness, Fifi Kwetey predicts, “our capacity to break free will not be seen. We must be shy to borrow and we must become independent because that is the only way we can prevent others from dictating to us.”
