Talented Ghanaian Highlife, Afrobeat and Afropop singer and songwriter, Kuami Eugene, has shared his view on the perception Ghanaian music not breaking into the international scene over language barriers.
According to him, Ghana’s music is breaking geographic boundaries but he believes there’s more room for improvement.
Speaking to Rev. Erskine on Y107.9FM’s Myd Morning Show he said, “We’re not on these big billboards and at the big festivals out there, but then again we’re headed towards that direction and I know it will work for Ghana very soon. Coming next year we’ll see a lot of Ghanaians on other bigger platforms because we’re working hard to get there”.
He believes that once musicians can gather some fan base and give them good music, it will take a year or two for people to get used to their music and represent them.
“Although we don’t get enough airplay, I believe we’re getting there because apart from my songs being played when I traveled to the Pacific, I also heard Sugarcane being played as well. I think by and large we’re getting there and very soon Ghanaians, and our listeners will be proud of us as musicians representing Ghana out there,” he emphasized.
