The Grammy-winning Jamaican producer and songwriter announces debut artiste project dubbed, “Edgehill” slated for 2023 release.
IzyBeats, the Grammy-winning Jamaican producer and songwriter behind global smash hits like Koffee’s breakthrough single “Toast” and Jorja Smith feat. Burna Boy’s “Be Honest,” is stepping out front as an artist for the first time with his debut single “Up Deh” featuring Konshens.
“Up Deh” is the lead track from IzyBeats’ forthcoming debut EP, Edgehill, coming in 2023 through Miami-based Creative Titans and Believe UK. The song finds IzyBeats and Konshens lavishing praise upon their respective love interests, as a slinky Spanish guitar melody glides above Izy’s silky smooth island pop riddim. Along with the audio, out now on all DSPs, IzyBeats and Konshens have shared the “Up Deh” video, directed by Kingpride Productions.
“Up Deh” is the first single to feature IzyBeats out front as an artist, but singing is nothing new for the Hellshire Beach, Jamaica native and longtime Miami resident. Growing up, he envisioned himself as a vocalist before he began making beats for his step brother, singer David Lyn. More than just a beatmaker, vocal coaching and writing is an integral part of IzyBeats’ creative process with the artists he produces. In fact, his voice can be heard providing melodies on many of his biggest hit productions.
It’s this aspect of his craft that led him to connect with Jamaican dancehall superstar Konshens (“Bruk Off Yuh Back,” “Gal a Bubble”) on his debut single. “I’ve recorded [Konshens] several times, and he’s never seen a producer from Jamaica work the way I work,” IzyBeats says. “As soon as he heard what I was planning [with the EP], he said I support it, I want to be a part of it. If he sees something in you, whatever he could do to help you, he’s gonna do it.”
Expect more singles to follow in early 2023, as IzyBeats takes listeners on the road to Edgehill.
“Edgehill is the street where I grew up in Jamaica, in Hellshire Beach,” IzyBeats explains of the EP’s title. “With my father’s passing a couple years back, I had to find a way to incorporate him into the project. He believed in me and was proud of me for just being good at what I do, and now that I’ve achieved all of this success, he’s not here to see it. This is my way of making him a part of it.”
