Multitalented Ghanaian artiste and producer, DayOnTheTrack, has offered a fresh perspective on the art of creativity and the power of interpretation. With his recent release titled, “Ashawo,” a track featured on his latest EP titled “Sounds and Waves,” DayOnTheTrack has managed to spark conversations about the limitations of definitions and the potential to transform perceptions.
In an exclusive interview on Y 107.9 FM’s “Shouts On Y” with host Winston Micheals, the artiste delved into his artistic philosophy, emphasizing his desire to perceive the world through a unique lens.
DayOnTheTrack pointed out that too often, people are quick to diminish the richness of an idea by confining it within rigid definitions. He expressed his belief that many concepts are far from basic and possess the capacity to be reimagined and reshaped into something profound and thought-provoking.
“People just like to dampen stuff so much and for me most of the time I feel like it’s really not that basic. Most of the time you can twist it, you can make so much of it and the whole project was about twisting stuff and giving it a different meaning to how things are,” he shared.
With “Ashawo” being a standout track on his new EP, DayOnTheTrack tackled the sensitive issue of societal labels and norms. While acknowledging that the term “Ashawo” holds a specific meaning in Ghanaian culture – referring to a sex worker – he shed light on his intent to reclaim and transform the word’s connotation.
DayOnTheTrack’s new EP, “Sounds and Waves,” which he also describes as an “Afro-heart” project, serves as a testament to his commitment to pushing artistic boundaries. By crafting music that encourages listeners to question their preconceived notions and embrace alternative perspectives, the artiste has sparked a larger discourse on the power of interpretation and the potential for creativity to reshape understanding.
