Ghanaian rapper Jason Gaisie, popularly known as Pappy Kojo has indicated that Ghanaian DJs need to increase their efforts regarding the #PlayGhana agenda.
In an interview on Y107.9FM’s Dryve of Your Lyfe with host Kojo Manuel, Pappy acknowledged the efforts of Ghanaian DJs to always give their audience a good show, however he stated that DJs must be more deliberate about playing more Ghanaian songs at shows and events. “I feel like the DJs should put a conscious agenda behind our music; I hear a particular song being played in Italy, then I come to Ghana, to come and hang and chill in the club only to hear the same thing; am I in Ghana or I am in Italy?”
The ‘Mbesiafo’ hitmaker noted that due to the absence of effective bodies to promote Ghanaian music, artistes build their own methods of promoting their music which he describes as very absorbing. “Ghanaian artistes are doing more than better in promoting their music; there’s no structure, there’s no support but they are doing more than enough.”
Director of Ghana’s Creative Arts Agency;Gyankroma Akufo-Addo has made a clarion call together with Music Executive and Cultural Activist, Smallgod to stand as advocates of the #PlayGhana initiative. The initiative is aimed at pushing Ghanaian artists to the forefront and manage the issue of the influx of foreign music dominance in the Ghanaian space.
