Trunkie (Trunkz) is a British-born rapper, singer and songwriter of Jamaican and Ghanaian heritage hailing from North West London. His music style is mainly Hip-Hop, R&B and Pop oriented, blending raps with rich melodies and versatile flows. Due to his West Indian and African background he also incorporates certain elements from afrobeats and dancehall in some of his music.
Trunkie was inspired to become an artist by his older brother and his cousin, who were making music around him when he was growing up. His inspirations from a sonic point of view range from a vast number of artists belonging to different genres. French Montana, Max B, Drake, Usher Raymond, Tory lanez, Young Thug and Post Malone to mention a few.
Trunkie began making music in Secondary School, creating a grime collective at the time called Durty Hoodz, which was an alternative, younger version to his brother’s grime crew called Dirty District.
Fast forward a number of years, Trunkie began making waves with songs like ‘Pavements/Relate’ featuring George The Poet and ‘Mars’ featuring Maxi Ace. Trunkie began receiving radioplay both regionally and nationally on stations such as Pulse FM, Represent FM, The Beat London, BBC 1xtra and BBC Three Counties.
Trunkie’s talent was recognised by Jethro ‘Alonestar’ Sheeran, the cousin of global superstar Ed Sheeran, in 2020 when they welcomed him on the 10 year anniversary remix of ‘Raise Em Up’, which peaked at #1 on iTunes Hip-Hop charts and featured on the Official Download Charts at #36.
In early October 2022, Trunkie released his long awaited project, called ‘Yo, Chale! Wagwan?’, a 14 track LP that showcases Trunkie’s music prowess on a major level! The project title proudly represents his heritage and upbringing, ‘Yo’ indicating the British influence, ‘Chale’ being a Ghanaian term for ‘friend’ whilst ‘Wagwan’ means ‘what’s going on?/how are you?’ in Jamaican Patois.
Trunkie has recently released a video for track 14, entitled ‘Exhausted’, emulating the intimate energy of a private, heartfelt live performance hosted in an empty club animated by strobe lights. The visuals match the sound of the song perfectly, as ‘Exhausted’ is a calming and soothing rap ballad displaying dexterous word play, laidback relatable lyrics and an easy-to-remember chorus. The song gives off a high level of raw and authentic energy, and although skilfully polished, it stands out from a sonic perspective because of the feeling that it evokes. When heard, ‘Exhausted’ has an addictive effect on the listeners due to its absorbing sound and relaxing melody, and in combination with Trunkie’s energy and body language in the video it creates a very special, personal experience.
Trunkie’s aims to become globally recognised for his craft, continuing to touch the lives and hearts of many who engage on his musical journey with him!
