The city of Boston,Massachusetts, USA has honored Nigerian singer Damini Ebunolowa Ogunu, globally recognized as Burna Boy with a own day to celebrate him.
A statement issued by the Boston City Council, on Thursday, mandated the people of Boston to celebrate Burna Boy on March 2nd every year.
According to the statement signed by Councilor Ruthzee Louijeune, Burna Boy through his captivating music has changed the narrative of Africa and stands as a symbol of global unity.
The statement affirmed that Nigeria’s African Giant has set the pace in helping the world to see the beauty of Africa and has duly offered the world with an opportunity to appreciate African music, particularly Afrobeats. “Burna Boy proudly embraces his Nigerian and African identity, infusing it with contemporary sounds to create music that resonates with audience worldwide, thereby challenging stereotypes about African artistry and opening doors for aspiring artistes from similar backgrounds.”
The statement indicated that Boston is populated by a massive number of Nigerians and bears a track record of recognizing and celebrating culture and diversity through events, festivals and community initiatives. “Burna Boy’s legacy serves as a reminder of possibility reminding us to continue amplifying voices that have longed been silenced or overlooked; now therefore be it that March 2, 2024 is designated Burna Boy Day in the city of Boston.” The statement concluded.
