Dezi Davinci is the fresh voice hip-hop has been waiting for. Having built a reputation for delivering hardcore lyricism on the underground circuit under the name Dezert Eagle, with a sound heavily influenced by hip-hop’s golden era, the British-born Ghanaian artist has now re-emerged—polished in all the right places.
The transition represents more than a change of name. It reflects Davinci’s personal development, artistic evolution and ambition to build an identity capable of reaching greater heights internationally.
When asked why he decided to make the switch, Davinci explains:
“The switch in identity came as part of my personal growth and the path I’ve travelled—something I aim to portray through my future releases. I also have ambitions to take my music and brand to greater heights, so it was important to establish an identity that was entirely my own and avoid any potential brand or trademark complications as I expanded.
“Dezert Eagle has always been a powerful name to me and became a major part of my identity, so letting go of it wasn’t easy. That’s why I’ve carried ‘Dezi’ into Dezi Davinci: to preserve an element of where I’ve come from while embracing who I am becoming. ‘Davinci’ represents my renewed focus on artistry—not only in the music itself, but in the visual art, fashion and creativity that form part of the complete picture.”
Davinci delivers flows smoother than the finest silk, exploring subject matter that resonates with people from different walks of life around the world. On songs such as “Exquisite Art,” an introduction to who he is and where he comes from, and “Brown Skin,” a warm, heartfelt celebration of Black women across every shade of brown, he demonstrates his ability to combine lyricism with substance, soul and elegance.
Although raised in South London, Davinci spent many of his formative years surrounded by family and friends in Accra. The pride with which he celebrates his Ga and Ashanti heritage on “Exquisite Art” makes it clear that he intends to represent Ghana on the global music stage.
His connection to African music also reaches back to his childhood. Reflecting on the global rise of afrobeats and amapiano, he says:
“I love everything about African sounds and the way they continue to expand across the globe. It’s incredible to see the impact afrobeats has made over the years, especially when I see Ghanaian artists receiving international exposure.
“I remember being taught how to play Kpanlogo as a child in Ghana and hearing Daddy Lumba at family parties. To go from those early memories to now hearing Ghanaian artists such as R2Bees, Fuse ODG and Shatta Wale in nightclubs and at major music events around the world is a big deal. It gives me yet another reason to be proud to be Ghanaian.
“As for amapiano—just show me where the party’s at and I’ll be there! I can listen and dance to amapiano all night without needing to switch genres. I love its soulful melodies, infectious rhythms and heavy basslines—especially the distinctly African riffs and high-pitched vocal chants that give the music so much energy and character.”
His British accent, golden-era hip-hop foundations and Ghanaian cultural influences give Davinci a distinctive identity. While hip-hop remains at his core, his appreciation for African sounds is set to play an increasingly important role in his future work.
Looking ahead, Davinci has a clear vision for the next stage of his career: “The next couple of years will be filled with new releases and collaborations on an international level. I’ll be tapping deeper into my roots and connecting with creatives across music, visual art and fashion—bringing people and cultures together through my work.
“I want to release thought-provoking music that raises awareness of global issues, offers perspectives on navigating life and, through it all, remembers to give thanks to our Creator, have fun and enjoy the journey.
“Although I’m a hip-hop artist at my core, I’ll also be venturing into some of our homegrown African genres and bringing my own identity and lyricism to those sounds. Ultimately, people can expect growth, meaningful art and Bangerz on top of Bangerz!”
Dezi Davinci is entering this new chapter with clarity, purpose and ambition. By carrying part of his past into a new identity, he is creating a body of work that connects music, visual art, fashion and culture—while remaining firmly rooted in lyricism and authenticity.
