When The Names Themselves Told A Story: My Take on Sarbah Hall “Ascenova’26”
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

The first time I saw the Ascenova’26 program outline, I didn’t just see a list of events. I saw the intention. I walked to Mensah Sabah Hall grounds expecting the usual music, crowds, and “let’s just have fun.” But the moment I read the names for each day, I knew this hall week was different. The executives didn’t just plan activities. They named experiences. And the names made you want to show up.

Here’s what stood out to me, day by day.
Saturday: Eco Cleanse & Chill
The Hall Week started with service, not noise. “Eco Cleanse” said: we care about our space first. “Chill” said: we can do it together and still enjoy it. Instead of jumping straight into partying, Sabah started by cleaning their environment and their heads. It set the tone: responsibility before celebration.

Sunday: Viewing Party
Naming the second activity “Viewing Party” right after “Eco Cleanse & Chill” was really intentional. The name itself says it all: no competition, no pressure, no performance. Just community.
It set the tone that Hall Week wasn’t only about energy and loud events. It started with us coming together to sit, watch, laugh and reflect as one.
“Viewing Party” gave the week a soft, calm start. It reminded us that community comes before the crowd.

Monday: Professional Pathways
No long grammar. Just direct. This was about your future. The financial literacy session told students that CGPA is not the only thing that will carry you after school. Budgeting, investing, planning. “Pathways” felt like a guide, not a lecture. For many of us, it was the first time money talk felt practical and not scary.

Tuesday: Wellness Check & Life Saver Drive + Paint and Sip + Karaoke
Three moods, one day.
“Wellness Check” was care. Check your BP, your sugar, talk to a nurse. “Life Saver Drive” was the purpose. Give blood, save a stranger.
Then in the evening, “Paint and Sip” and “Karaoke” said: healing can also be fun. You don’t have to be loud to be part of hall week. You can paint, you can sing, and still feel seen. The name switches from serious in the morning to creative at night was perfect.

Wednesday: Skills Up & The Block Walls – Football Gala
“Skills Up” felt like growth. Learn something new. “The Block Walls” for the football gala was genius. It wasn’t just “intra -hall football.” It was rivalry, pride, community. The name made it feel like your block was your family. And on the field, you saw it. Roommates who don’t talk in the room became teammates for 90 minutes. That’s therapy.

Thursday: Kitchen Wars: Who Cooks? & Heritage and High Fashion
This was culture day, but with flavour. “Kitchen Wars: Who Cooks?” turned food into a fun competition. Soup vs jollof, not to fight, but to laugh and share.
Then “Heritage and High Fashion” on the cultural runway. The name alone was powerful. It said: be proud of where you come from, but also express it in style. It wasn’t just traditional wear. It was identity, confidence, and creativity on one stage.

Friday: Skills Up II & Unscripted and Unplugged / Real Talk+ Frozen Vibes
Friday was for the hidden gems. “Skills Up II” kept the growth going.
“Unscripted and Unplugged / Real Talk” gave room for education on our sexual life.
And “Frozen Vibes” at night? The name was clever. Cool music, cool people, cool energy to close the week before the final weekend. It promised calm before the big boom.

Saturday: Walk to Peduase & Aerobics + Rave Night
They ended the active part of the week with movement. “Walk to Peduase & Aerobics” said health is still a priority. Walk together, sweat together, bond outside campus.
Then “Rave Night.” After all the wellness, learning, and culture, you deserved to dance. The name didn’t lie. Energy, lights, YFM DJs. It was released.
