Ghanaian Lawyer and socialite, Emmanuella Osardu Esq. has stated that individuals are legally justified in calling off a marriage if they discover unacceptable behaviour from their partner before the ceremony.
Speaking on the Legal Lens segment of Y107.9FM’s Myd Morning Radio Show, the legal practitioner explained that while marriage is a significant commitment, no one is obligated to proceed if circumstances arise that threaten the foundation of the union.
According to her, behaviours that undermine trust, respect or the wellbeing of either party should not be ignored simply because preparations for the marriage are already underway. She stressed that choosing to halt the process may be the wiser decision than entering a marriage that is already showing signs of instability. “For instance you’re in public, out of no reason maybe the waiter speaks to you and you feel offended and all of a sudden you’re throwing tantrums and then you start creating a scene and you expect her to marry you or settle down with you? My guy change, my sister stop that bad behavior.”
She noted that a halted marriage on this premise is not a breach and is legally approved.
