Civil servants and public servants have emerged as the dominant group of individuals showing interest in learning the French language, according to the La Francophonie Policy Coordinator at the Office of the President, Francis Koku Afelete.
The Policy Coordinator while speaking on Episode 3 of FrancoVybz highlighted the growing interest in French among professionals within Ghana’s public sector.
“We’ve been able to do a study on the level of proficiency of Ghanaian professionals and we are amazed how Ghanaians are interested in the language.”
According to the Afelete, the development reflects the practical value many public and civil servants attach to the French language, particularly in Ghana’s engagement with Francophone countries.
The growing interest also points to the increasing relevance of French beyond the classroom, as professionals seek to improve communication and take advantage of opportunities within the Francophone community.
