For women running agribusinesses in the Krachi East district of the Oti Region, producing and processing agricultural products is only one part of the business. Finding customers, keeping proper financial records, managing cash flow and making products visible to a wider market are equally important to sustaining growth.
To help bridge these gaps, the Telecel Ghana Foundation, in partnership with Developers Academy, has trained over 200 women in agribusiness across Dambai and Kete Krachi in the Oti Region, equipping them with practical digital and financial literacy skills.
The two-day training focused on skills the women can apply directly to their businesses, including digital marketing, record keeping, financial planning, savings and the use of digital financial services. Participants were also guided on how to use social media and other digital platforms to showcase their products, reach potential customers and expand beyond their existing markets.
Speaking at the training, Rita Agyeiwaa Rockson, Head of Foundation, Sustainability and External Communications at Telecel Ghana, said the initiative was designed to give women practical tools to strengthen the way they manage and grow their businesses.
“Women are at the heart of Ghana’s agricultural value chain, yet many still face barriers to accessing digital tools and financial knowledge that can help them expand their businesses. Through this initiative, we are equipping women with practical skills to make informed financial decisions, embrace technology and build sustainable livelihoods. When women are able to grow their businesses, the benefits extend beyond the individual to their families and communities.”
For Cynthia Azi, a palm oil processor and distributor, the training opened new possibilities to how she could present and grow her products. “Before this training, all I knew was how to process my Zormi and bottle it for sale. Now I have learnt how to add value to my products and use digital platforms to market them so I can attract more customers and grow my business.”
Boafo Sandra, a cassava farmer and processor, said the financial literacy sessions had changed how she approaches the financial side of her business. “The training has taught me how to properly manage my finances as an agribusiness player. I now understand how to keep better records and make good financial decisions that will help my business grow without running into losses.”
The Dambai training forms part of the Telecel Ghana Foundation’s efforts to expand digital participation and financial inclusion among underserved groups, with a focus on giving women the practical knowledge to participate more confidently in an increasingly digital economy.
