Head of Campus France, Ghana, Daniel Doe, has revealed that individuals who study French are open to a wide range of career opportunities beyond the traditional teaching profession.
Speaking on Episode 4 of FrancoVybz with Rev Erskine, Doe noted that proficiency in the French language was matched to the teaching profession while he studied French during his tertiary education journey. “Back in school, while I was in the University, I studied French. Everytime we spoke about a careers, the first thing that came to mind is to become a teacher and it’s like everybody was conditioned to that.” he said.
He noted that French-speaking professionals are particularly valuable in areas such as business, international relations, diplomacy, tourism, hospitality and other fields that require engagement with French-speaking markets. “Businesses today are not just in Ghana. Businesses involve countries, partners and people from different sides. Understanding the culture of your partners is also very key.”
Daniel Doe explained that with Ghana’s growing engagement with Francophone countries, French language skills can help young people position themselves for opportunities both locally and internationally.
The conversation formed part of the fourth episode of FrancoVybz, hosted by award-winning broadcaster Rev Erskine. The podcast seeks to examine the cultural, creative and professional connections between Ghana and the Francophone world, while creating a platform for discovery and exchange among young audiences.
