Skillgator International, an educational organization with a focus on empowering the youth by helping them enhance their skills and competencies for the current job market has expressed its intention to offer Ghanaians a three month skill training on entrepreneurship and digital media.
The training which will focus on women is to encourage more Ghanaian women acquire more knowledge in the use of ICT. It will train women entrepreneurs on digital literacy skills that will help them grow a sustainable business.
According to the Training Coordinator at SkillGator, Ms Jessica Robertson, “Statistical evidence has shown that in most African countries, women’s use and knowledge of ICT is lower than that of their male counterparts. Thereby, denying them of income generating opportunities and the chance to build their networks”.
She indicated that a solution to the problem has been the use of technology and the Internet to expand the business reach beyond their immediate community, thereby giving their businesses new opportunities for growth.
Ms. Robertson further mentioned “the world’s population is younger than ever, with 1.2 billion people aged 16-24. Therefore, providing pathways into the world of work for young people is one of the greatest development challenges of our era”.
Giving an overview about the training, she noted that the program will educate women on how to use and adapt technology for their entrepreneurial ideas and career development as well as empower women through technology, digital media, and the internet. And encouraged all women especially entrepreneurs to participate.
The modules of the program include the Rules and Practice of Entrepreneurship, Social Media Marketing, Introduction to Web & Mobile APP Development, Developing websites with WordPress, Blogging 101 and Introduction to the Blockchain Technology.
Facilators will include Gertrude Opare (Mrs.), CEO/ Co-Founder of ViSANi , Mrs Alice Mensah, A certified digital marketer, Mr Mathew Akoto – An experienced IT professional, Enam Kumi , Founder of Accra Connect, Mrs Esther Nyamadie – founder of Nobles’ Montessori and a columnist of Business and Financial Times, Joseph Amponsah, Independent fund Arranger and Kwabena Okyire Appianing , Head of Innovations at Global Media Alliance.
