In a last ditch attempt to try and convince Paul Pogba to stay at the club, Manchester United are ready to offer the Frenchman a massive upgrade on his current £290k a week deal, according to reports.
Pogba publicly announced that it “could be a good time to move elsewhere” at the weekend.
But before his recent revelation, the midfielder has been heavily linked with a big-money move away from Old Trafford for some time.
That being said, it’s absolutely clear that United want the 26-year-old to stay ahead of the 2019/20 season.
The Daily Mail report that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are prepared to offer the midfielder ‘up to £500,000 a week’ in a bid to persuade the unsettled player to play a part next season.
If that figure is indeed accurate, he would match Alexis Sanchez’s astronomical wage; that’s if the Chilean winger is still at Old Trafford next season.
The report also claims that Real Madrid have made an opening bid of £90 million for Pogba, but United want far more than they originally paid for him back in 2016.
It is also believed that his former side Juventus are also interested in his services.
But will he stay at Old Trafford after all that’s happened in recent days?
Pogba all but confirmed his feelings towards a potential transfer away from Old Trafford in an interview with bEIN Sports last week.
“I am thinking of this: To have a new challenge somewhere else,” Pogba said.
“For me, I have been for three years in Manchester and have been doing great; some good moments and some bad moments, like everybody. Like everywhere else.
“After this season and everything that happened this season, with my season being my best season as well… I think for me it could be a good time to have a new challenge somewhere else.”
From his bust-up with former boss Jose Mourinho to his lack of consistency on the pitch, the midfielder has never managed to produce on a consistent basis for Manchester United.
But he did show glimpses of brilliance when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over, flourishing in a more creative role.
