Eden Hazard completed his stunning move to Real Madrid a ‘stone overweight,’ according to reports in Spain.
Hazard has been on pre-season tour with his new side and has featured heavily under Zinedine Zidane as he becomes familiar with Los Blancos’ high expectations.
The Belgium international will be hoping his side bounce back against Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow after their 7-3 thrashing to Atletico Madrid on Saturday.
It’s not the first time that the ex-Chelsea star has been in hot water over his fitness ahead of the new season.
The winger, who was revealed as the cover star for FIFA 20, told Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws last year that he struggled with fitness at the start of the 2015-16 season with Chelsea.
“I have had one bad year — the last six months under [Jose] Mourinho and it was partially my own doing. After winning the title, we asked Mourinho for extra holidays,” he explained.
“I was totally out of shape at the start of the season, I remembered that lesson this summer [2018] — four weeks after the World Cup, I was back in training at Chelsea.
“The last season under Mourinho was not pleasant any more, we didn’t win, we got into a routine, training without having fun, it was better for all parties it ended.”
According to Hazard’s former teammate Ross Barkley, Chelsea players must step up next season to help fill the void left behind by the Madrid star.
