Eagle-eyed Liverpool fans spotted a brilliant moment from Jordan Henderson after he refused to take the captain’s armband from Virgil van Dijk.
Someone else wrote: “And this kind of act is exactly why I love him. His main concern is always the TEAM and the performance. True Captain in every sense of the word.”
A third said: “This really shows his confidence! I approve.”
A fourth added: “Anyone who is a leader doesn’t have to show he is a leader.”
Henderson admitted last month that he wanted James Milner to lift the Champions League trophy with him last season, but the ex-Manchester City man refused to support his idea.
And Liverpool skipper Henderson has continued to receive praise as Adrian Durham recently claimed that he is a “better leader and a better captain” than Reds legend Steven Gerrard.
Liverpool held off a late scare from Southampton on Saturday to claim a 2-1 victory and secure the top spot in the table.
Sadio Mane handed the Reds a 1-0 lead before half-time and Roberto Firmino doubled their lead in the second half.
And while Danny Ings scored against his former side to hand the Saints a fighting chance, Liverpool took home all three points from their clash at the St Mary’s Stadium.
The Reds will be in action on Saturday when they host Arsenal at Anfield.
Will Liverpool win the Premier League title next season?
