The son of Brazil football legend Cafu has passed away at the age of 30, after dying during a game of football.
Danilo Feliciano de Moraes was playing football with friends when he experienced chest pains.
Local reports state that the 30-year-old had complained about feeling unwell, before playing the game at his home in Barueri, Sau Paulo.
The death was confirmed by Cafu’s former Brazil team-mate and family friend Paulo Sergio
Danilo was the oldest of three children of the World Cup winner Cafu, who made over 400 appearances for AC Milan and Roma.
Roma were among the first of the football community to pay tribute and pass on their condolences to Cafu at this dark hour.
‘The club sends its deepest condolences to Marcos Cafu and his family at this sad time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all,’ Roma said via a short statement on social media.
Both Sao Paulo and AC Milan also reached out with heartfelt messages.
‘It’s with a sad heart that we offer our deepest condolences to his family at this saddest of time,’ wrote Milan’s official account.
Cafu, 49, won two Scudetti and a Champions League during his career, as well as 142 caps and two World Cups for Brazil.
He has been working as one of the main ambassadors for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, working closely with the Josoor Insitute – a centre of excellence for sport in the Middle East.
Working closely with communities is something that the former full-back has thrown himself into following his retirement from the game.
He has played an active role in Jardim Irene – his hometown in Brazil, where he has taken a leading position in providing education and vocational training to those in his community.
