Ghanaian hiplife turned gospel muscian, born Michael Kesse Frimpong but goes by stage name Kesse has disclosed that he was never signed under any record label as a hiplife artiste.
According to him, the popular notion that he was signed by music producer Appietus and Mark Okraku Mantey is false.
He made this revelation in an interview with Happy 98.9 FM’s Doctar Cann on ‘Showbiz Xtra’. “People think I was signed by Mark Okraku and Appietus. But I was never signed under any record label back then but I received support from a lot of people.”
He noted that back then when one competed in a reality show, the individual was expected to break out with his own efforts. “Back then when you finished a reality show and you’re not sharp, you will die out. Because attention was not really paid to us after that.”
He acknowledged that things have changed in recent times with individuals competing in reality shows now getting the opportunity to be signed under labels.
He maintained that this new development should continue and see a lot more record labels joining the trend.
Kesse rose to fame after winning the fourth season of Mentor. He participated in Season 2 of Project Fame West Africa and finished as first runner-up.
