“I wanted to play baseball professionally” – Former MD, CAL Bank

June 10, 2020
in News

Former Managing Director of CAL Bank, Frank Adu Jnr has disclosed that had he grown up outside Ghana, he would not have been a banker.
According to him, he would have become a baseball player (what we call in Ghana as ‘Chaskele’) had he been born in America in the ’60s.
Speaking on the Y leaderboard Series on the Myd Morning show with the Y107.9FM’s Rev Erskine, the banker indicated, “I would’ve been a sportsman if I had grown up in America where sports was advanced and developed in the ’60s.”
The avid sportsman disclosed that his father was someone who had high regard for formal education and expected his kids never to compromise on their education. “In the ’60s, you couldn’t go to your father and say I want to play football.”
On his authority, sports was not a big thing in Ghana back then with only boxing and football dominating. He believes the reason he could not follow his passion professionally was because sports was also not developed back then.
This did not however prevent Frank Adu from enjoying sporting activities. He has distinguished himself in all sporting activities including football, field hockey, volleyball, handball, squash, cricket, polo, and now golf. Mr. Adu has also captained the Achimota Golf Club and the Accra Polo Club.
