Alliance Française Accra, French Embassy and High Commission of Canada host dialogue on gender equality to mark International Women’s Day https://yfmghana.com/alliance-francais-accra-french-embassy-high-commission-of-canada-host-dialogue-on-gender-equality-to-mark-international-womens-day/ https://yfmghana.com/alliance-francais-accra-french-embassy-high-commission-of-canada-host-dialogue-on-gender-equality-to-mark-international-womens-day/#respond Mon, 16 Mar 2026 11:43:34 +0000 https://yfmghana.com/?p=138461 Alliance Française Accra, French Embassy and the High Commission of Canada held an event to commemorate International Women’s Day, aimed at initiating relevant conversations around women’s empowerment and gender equality. The event, held at the Alliance Française Accra seminar room, featured a lineup of activities ranging from keynote speeches to a panel discussion. Keynote addresses were delivered by the Ambassador of France to Ghana, H.E. Diarra Dime Labille, the Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Myriam Montrat, and the Senior Programme Officer – Resourcing at the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF), Dr. Rose Buabeng. The discussions focused on the progress made in the pursuit of gender equality and women’s empowerment, as well as the ability of women to take up leadership roles across the globe. The Ambassador of France to Ghana, H.E. Diarra Dime Labille, described the partnership between Alliance Française Accra and the High Commission of Canada to Ghana as a natural one, citing their shared commitment to expanding opportunities for women to take up leadership positions across the Sub-Saharan region. “As you may know France adapted a Feminist Foreign Policy in 2019, this means we have decide to make gender equality a priority in every area of our international action.” she stated. She further noted that global actions such as peace and security, development and health cannot be effectively implemented without the active participation of empowered women who play critical roles in these areas. The Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Myriam Montrat, shared similar sentiments as she shed light on the robust policies implemented by the Canadian government to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women worldwide. Touching on the theme of International Women’s Day, ‘Give To Gain,’ she said, “The Theme for the year is Give to Gain and it resonates strongly with Canada as it calls for a global commitment to protect women’s and girls’ rights to ensure justice for all women and girls and to amplify their voices and actions.” Senior Programme Officer – Resourcing at AWDF, Dr. Rose Buabeng, acknowledged the efforts of key actors who have helped position Ghana as one of the leading contributors to the broader African Feminist Movement. She highlighted a number of achievements women across the African continent have made over the years. “These efforts have led to important gains. We have seen progress in women’s political participation all across Africa, greater recognition of gender-based violence as a public issue and stronger organizing around economic justice, bodily autonomy and social accountability.” The event also featured a panel discussion led by Professor Takyiwaa Manuh, Professor Eunice Mensah, Aseye Tamakloe, Mo Tahir, and Professor Akosua Adomako Ampofo, who shared perspectives on gender equality and women’s empowerment. The seminar further introduced a creative dimension with the screening of the film “When Women Speak” by Aseye Tamakloe, which revisits Ghana’s post-colonial history by amplifying the voices of 16 women who shaped the nation during some of its most turbulent years. Directed by Tamakloe, the film challenges the long-standing notion that gender activism in Africa is a modern “Western import,” demonstrating instead that Ghanaian women have long been at the forefront of social and political mobilization.

Petrine Addae launches ‘Single and Being – Trust the Faithful God’ book https://yfmghana.com/petrine-addae-launches-single-and-being-trust-the-faithful-god-book/ https://yfmghana.com/petrine-addae-launches-single-and-being-trust-the-faithful-god-book/#respond Wed, 11 Mar 2026 16:22:54 +0000 https://yfmghana.com/?p=138375 Development Professional and Author Petrine Addae has launched a new book titled Single and Being – Trust the Faithful God. The publication highlights the experiences and reflections of the author on singlehood and seeks to empower women to embrace their individuality, pursue their dreams, and live purposefully while placing their full trust in God despite societal pressures. Speaking at the launch, Ms. Addae explained the inspiration behind the book came after years of reflection on her own journey and the stories of other women navigating similar experiences. “Single and Being” has been a journey and more like a call, for a long time, I was not ready to write it because the subject of being single is very sensitive and rarely discussed openly. Writing this book meant laying myself bare to the world” she said. Ms. Addae further explained that the book is anchored on three central pillars posture, position, and purpose which guide individuals in navigating life’s uncertainties. She clarified that posture emphasises maintaining an attitude of gratitude regardless of one’s circumstances, noting that being unmarried should never become a reason to give up on life or lose confidence. Instead, she encourages women to remain thankful for God’s goodness and the blessings in their lives, which ultimately empowers them to stand tall and move forward with confidence. The second pillar, position, focuses on placing one’s complete trust in God. She noted that individuals must deliberately position themselves in a place of unwavering faith, trusting in God’s promises and believing that whatever He has spoken will surely come to pass. The final pillar, purpose, highlights the importance of discovering and pursuing one’s divine assignment in life. According to her, every individual is created with a purpose, and living in alignment with that purpose brings fulfilment and allows one’s light to shine. “Ultimately, this book encourages people to trust God, discover their purpose, and live according to His plan. Life is not only about the things we acquire, but about fulfilling the assignment God has given us,” she added. Launching the book, Executive Director of Salt & Light Ministries, Rev. Dr. Joyce Rosalind Aryee, said the publication carries a powerful message about trusting God even when societal expectations suggest otherwise. “The book really is about trusting God even when society is thinking something different. The whole message is about being yourself and understanding that one thing you may not have should not define your life,” she said. Petrine Addae launches ‘Single and Being – Trust the Faithful God’ bookThe book’s foreword was written by the Vice President of Eastwood Anaba Ministries, Reverend Rosemond Anaba, with endorsements from several prominent personalities including Oheneyere Gifty Anti, Professor Hannah Acquah, Kofi Aryee, and Professor Esi Awuah, who commended the author for addressing an important but often overlooked subject.
