Quiz Mistress of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann has revealed that when it comes to her three kids’ educational endeavours, they do not have any interest in becoming her replica.
She shared that all her three children want to live a life of their own and as such have pursued courses different from what she pursued in school.
Detailing what each child is doing in the academic field she told Rev Erskine on the Y Leaderboard Series: “None of them is interested in what I do. The first one actually did science. She was the best graduating science student at Aburi Girls in her year. And yet she wanted nothing to do with engineering. She just graduated in 2020 from the University of Pennsylvania. She started out saying she wanted to learn biological basis of human behavior and then round up taking all sorts of very interesting courses. She graduated with Psychology, after having studied psychology, digital media and others. They want to be completely different from me. This the one that is probably actually closer.
The second one is at the University of Ghana studying Economics and the last one is in the Senior High School. He just started the third year. He says he wants to do computer science. Maybe that is a bit closer but he is a General Arts student”.
Prof. Kaufmann expressed how proud she was of her children as she notes that despite all the pressures from others, they have been resilient.
“The only commonality among them is the love for mathematics. Otherwise, they don’t want anything to do with what mummy is doing and I understand them. I think it is also pressure from around. Everybody sees them, ‘quiz mistress’ child’ but they each want to live their own lives. I respect them for that”, she added.
