Academician and Quiz Mistress of the renowned National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann has shared that her most anticipated days as a student were Mondays.
Growing up in a home with both parents as academics, Professor Kaufmann noted that one of her greatest interests as a child was going to school.
Sharing some of her memories in an interview with Rev Erskine on Y 107.9 FM’s Y Leaderboard Series, she said, “Because my parents were academics, we moved around a lot from time to time”.
When asked if the frequent re-locations, that inadvertently led to change of schools, environment and friends affected her, she answered in the negative.
According to her she did not feel attached to any particular place but was rather excited when her parents were transferred from one town to the other because, she got the chance to explore and learn new things.
Professor Kaufmann said, “I had no issues when we moved from place to place. I was rather interested in going to school. And when we were asked our favorite days at schools, I strangely always said my favorite days were Mondays when everyone else opted for Fridays”.
Disclosing why she loved Mondays, the academician noted that Mondays were fresh starts for the week. “Mondays were when we started new topics in school and I was always looking forward to doing something new and exciting”.
As a student, her choice of Monday as her favorite day comes as a surprise to many as most students and even some workers consider Mondays as ‘torture’ days. Her choice is obviously a testament to where she is now, as Associate Professor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, University of Ghana.
