Quiz Mistress of the popular National Science and Math Quiz, Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann has shared how she is able to handle successfully her work life coupled with having to take care of her family.
She told Rev. Erskine during an interview on YFM’s Y-Leaderboard series segment of the Myd-Morning Radio Show that the only secret she has to being successful in this is that she never says no to help, and her greatest helper all these years has been her mom.
“Those of you who have been watching the National Science and Math quiz, all these years maybe with the exception of 2020 when my dear mom was ‘banished’ from the hall, she’s always there. During that period when I am so busy that I can hardly think of menus and meals for anybody, she helps me out.
When my first daughter was born in the US, she traveled to the US and came back to Ghana for my second daughter. So, I never say no to help. It’s knowing when you need help, accepting the help and realizing that you can’t do everything at once”, she said.
According to the professor, her children understand her and the nature of her job, and know that she would drop everything for them when they need her, yet for the respect they have for what she does, they try not to interfere with her work life when she is not trivially needed.
She confessed that it is not an easy thing to do, because it is like smuggling her way through while making sure to get each of her children whatever they need, whenever they need it, however, what has helped her is getting her children to co-operate with her as well as accepting any form of help offered.
