Affectionately called the ‘Queen of evening radio’ by her listeners, Akosua Hanson is the host of Y FM’s long-running evening radio show, the Lounge. The Y Lounge is centred on urban music and pop culture and serves as an exciting daily source of entertainment for the Accra population.
Akosua also wears other hats as a feminist activist, writer and actress and is very passionate about youth development and social change.
She is the director of a young art-ivist organisation called Drama Queens and her work has been published on sites such as pan-African website, thisisafrica.me , AllAfrica.com and The Prairie Schooner.
Accolades: Akosua is a Mandela Washington Fellow & and Obama Africa Leader (an honour bestowed by President Obama’s foundation. Her activist work has been featured on international platforms such as The Spin, DW TV, Spiegel.de and has spoken on many prestigious platforms such as the Forum on Internet Freedom in Africa and was the 2019 moderator for The Hague Talks.

DJ Kess discovered her talent in Senior High School (Archbishop Porter Girls, Takoradi) when she was made the school’s official Dj. Her passion to become a Dj grew bigger when she realized that she could learn and become a good Dj and a Music Producer, now that she has access to all the sound equipment the school had. What looked like a one-time wonder now became Kess’ profession after immense training. She has been DJing professionally as a radio DJ with YFM for the past 10years, taking female djing in Ghana to a different level, by djing on radio, clubs and big events.

Ella Okunmwendia is a radio and television content producer, a journalist, and a sports presenter and is fluent in English and French with basic proficiency in Korean and Spanish.
She has worked with Agency Ephat Media as a producer on Time With Celebrity and Prime Morning, as well as 12.28 Inc Productions as the assistant producer of the “Love Is” show.
Ella began her career in radio at the age of 17, in her first year at the University of Ghana. She was recruited as a newscaster for Radio Univers’ French Show “Rendez-Vous Avec La France” after she impressed the producer of the show with her reading. She later became the producer and host of the show.
She officially joined Radio Univers in May 2015 and was assigned to the Sports Desk, a field she had limited knowledge. After months of training, Ella became the first female Assistant Sports Editor at Radio Univers and boasts of being the first sports journalist in Ghana to report on Bobsled and Skeleton and also the first lady to announce at a Taekwondo event in Ghana; the Ghana Open Taekwondo Championship.
After 2 years with Radio Univers, she joined Ghana’s Number one Urban Station as a Sports presenter before producing the MydMorning Radio Show with Trigmatic and Dj Ganj after 2 months, a position she held for 2 years.
In March 2018, Ella began producing The Dryve with Joel Orleans and DJ Mic Smith. Following her passion for Korean Culture, Ella introduced Pop Central, a 2-hour radio show which features Korean Pop music, the first of its kind in Ghana.
As a journalist, Ella has collaborated with several international media houses, including the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the German newsmagazine Der Spiegel, and French TV station TV5Monde.
Currently, she works with Akosua Hanson and DJ Kess on the Y Lounge, Kojo Manuel, and DJ Mic Smith on The DrYve, and Winston Micheals on Pop Central, all on Y107.9FM.
