Managing Director of Think Mahogany Events, Debra-Jane Nelson, has advised that everyone must carry on with an entrepreneurial spirit no matter what career path they find themselves in.
According to her, an entrepreneurial spirit will move a person to “survival mode”, hence pushing such a person to give off their very best in whatever they do.
She shared this admonition in an interview with YFM’s Rev. Erskine on the Y Leaderboard Series.
“Everybody needs an entrepreneurial spirit. Even if you want to be a doctor or a lawyer, very good but that entrepreneurial skill is what is going to help you to succeed. Whatever career path you find yourself in, that mentality of ‘I am just going to do what I have to do and I am going to get paid at the end of the month, life goes on’ is a wrong attitude. And people with that attitude, when you get fired you are doomed because you are never in survival mode. You are very complacent and just there”, she said.
According to the entrepreneur, we were all not born to become entrepreneurs. However, having the spirit of an entrepreneur is a must for everyone.
“I am always teaching people that we are all not born to be entrepreneurs. We can’t all be entrepreneurs and the entrepreneurial journey is not even for the meek”, she added.
