Black Queens and Hasaacas Ladies captain, Janet Egyiri has called for early preparations ahead of the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations qualifier against Nigeria.
The Black Queens were handed a tough opposition in the first round of the qualifiers in the draw held on Monday at the CAF headquarters in Cairo.
The new format for the qualifiers has come under criticism from the media and football fans because it could see some of the big teams miss out on the tournament.
Janet Egyiri is confident Ghana can progress to the next round despite facing the defending champions Nigeria at this early stage.
According to her, she prefers to play 2018 AWCON champions than Cameroon.
“Our game against Nigeria is very difficult and we need to start preparations very early. I would prefer to play Nigeria than Cameroon. The Cameroonians are very tough and are bullies and we struggle to compete with them but for Nigeria, our football and theirs are quite similar”, she said told Ohene-Bampoe Brenya on Happy 98.9FM.
Janet Agyiri who is also preparing with Hasaacas Ladies for the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League stated their target is to win the competition.
“We are in camp preparing for the Champions League. Our target is to win this season’s league and get the opportunity to qualify again to the tournament next year”.
The qualifiers would be a home and away format and the highest aggregate winners would qualify to join Morocco for the final showdown next year.
