Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo played the full 90 minutes as Manchester City cruised to a 2-0 victory over Arsenal to lift the Carabao Cup on Sunday.
City’s hero on the night was Nico O’Reilly, with the midfielder-turned left-back grabbing a second-half brace to hand Pep Guardiola’s side their first silverware of the season.
Operating mainly from the right flank, Semenyo was lively throughout the contest and nearly got his name on the scoresheet in the second half, but his curling left-footed effort narrowly missed the target.
Speaking after the game, the Ghana international expressed his delight, saying:
“First trophy of many I hope! God’s got a plan. It might not work out, you might not know why, but the answer always reveals itself.”
The triumph marks Semenyo’s first piece of silverware since his January move from AFC Bournemouth, and sees him become the first Ghanaian to win the competition since Michael Essien lifted it with Chelsea FC in 2007.
Semenyo is now expected to link up with the Ghana national football team in Vienna ahead of upcoming international friendlies against Austria national football team and Germany national football team later this week.
