Heavyweight rapper and songwriter Keeny Ice has revealed that news of his nomination in the Unsung Category of the upcoming Telecel Ghana Music Awards took him by surprise.
In an interview on Y107.9FM’s Dryve of Your Lyfe, with Kojo Manuel, he touted his debut inclusion on the award scheme as testament of his undying desire to defy all odds and create a track a record of consistency in the music industry. “It’s a great feeling because being on it as a first timer, shows me that being consistent and persistent really pays off.” He noted.
The rapper while reminiscing about the boundless joy that came when he spotted the news made calls to verify if any of his family members had a hand in making his nomination possible. He said, “I was actually watching TV and I wanted to watch a particular program and that same program brought out the nomination announcement and my video popped up. So I had to call my mother and confirm if any of my family members had any idea of this and they even did not know about it.”
The hip hop talent described the award scheme as Ghana’s most acknowledged award scheme and deemed it a great honor to be part of this year’s TGMA awards. “This is our version of the GRAMMYs and millions of talents want to be there. So if I am part of the chosen few to grace that stage, I am grateful and would utilize every opportunity that comes with it.”
Keeny Ice faces other impeccable Ghanaian talents like, Lali X Lola, Kasar, Kwesi Amewuga, Sevenkizs, Alaptawan to compete for the TGMA Unsung Artiste of The Year. The 25 edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards is slated for Saturday , June 1 2024, at the Grand Arena of The Accra International Conference Center.
