Even though Kofi Kinaata wasn’t the overall crowned “Artiste of the Year” (yet), he seems to be enjoying a lot of buzz after last Saturday’s VGMAs where he made history as the youngest musician to have won “Songwriter of the Year” as well as the “best New Artiste”.
Pictures and video snippets about a whole community in Takoradi (where he hails from) has gone viral on social media – in the video snippets hitting over 30,000 views on Facebook alone, his fans in Takoradi thronged the streets amidst heavy jubilation with Brass Band on Sunday, May 8, 2016.
“I’m full of so much excitement the words are not coming; but let me first of all thank God for seeing me and the entire Team through it all. Big thanks to Samini who has been very helpful to me and showing me the way. Big shouts to my Manager, Tony Pun (Anthony Daning) ‘aka’ Shatta Pun. He has motivated me a lot to come this far. Big thanks to my huge home fanbase in Takoradi, their response and jubilation after winning is overwhelming, I cried watching them singing to my songs in the streets with brass band.
I also want to use this medium to thank the VGMA Board, The Academy, and EVERYBODY WHO VOTED FOR US to win the awards. I can’t forget the DJs, Presenters, Bloggers and everybody who helped pushed my works to reach far and beyond. My fans (Team Move), very big thanks. Big thanks to my Road Manager, Joe Williams (Ojooe), my Publicist Elorm Beenie, Abeiku Quansah, Michael Ansah (Lenzy) and also a big thank you to my Producer Kin Dee who did massive works on my productions as well as everybody who keeps supporting this dream.
I respect and appreciate everybody who helped me this far and I promise to raise my game and take it to the next higher level. I have done a song with Kaakie called ‘Action Time’ and I am using it to thank everyone for their direct and indirect support for us to win at the VGMAs”, says Kofi Kinaata.
