Managing Director of Think Mahogany Events, Debra-Jane Nelson, has highlighted the importance of placing value on one’s craft.
She shares that the higher the value one places on their craft, the greater the possibility of making a greater profit in what they do.
Speaking to Rev.Erskine on the Y Leaderboard Series, she explained: “A lot of people do not see their craft as anything worthy of professionalism. The carpenter is doing what he is doing but do you know what, he can put so much value on that thing he is doing and make it such a professional service that even when we are coming to pay him to join two pieces of wood, we will respect ourselves when we are coming”.
She furthered that she is often hurt when people do not put a value on their brand when they could be earning more from doing that.
“People don’t place value on their stuff and that bothers me a lot. I think a lot of us will be better off if we put value on our craft and we are not just doing it because we are doing it.
Even the way we will brand ourselves if I was in a line and there were 5 people holding pure water on their heads and I want to buy a sachet of water I will look at the 5 and pick 1. It is not by luck. Maybe the way they are dressed can inform my decision”, she stated.
Debra-Jane Nelson is the Managing Director and Head Event Stylist at Think Mahogany, a creative-forward thinking communications agency.
