Africa’s first Professor Extraordinaire and Author of the world’s first all-inclusive Supply Chain Management Compendium, Professor Douglas Boateng has urged Ghanaian institutions to invest in the youth and support them on their entrepreneurship drive.
He believes this is one of the many ways to reduce the unemployment situation in Ghana and also rid them (youth) of the culture of self-pity and entitlement.
“If we can find a way of getting our youth to be more entrepreneurial and take risks, then things will start to change. If we help ten (10) youths, two (2) will succeed and they will be role models for another ten (10)”, he said.
He disclosed that in Ghana, institutions refuse to even support the ten (10) people because they (institutions) fear taking risks, and are not ready to put money behind certain people “because they (institutions) know the money will be lost”.
In an interview with Y107.9FM’s Rev Erskine, host of the Myd Morning Show, Professor Boateng charged institutions to be bold in supporting the youth financially although there is a possibility of losing such investments. “I am saying support as many as possible because if the youth are supported in their entrepreneurial drive, and even two out of the ten succeed, they will pay what was invested.
We need to find a way of encouraging the institutions to give as much as possible out to support the youth. Some will lose without a doubt but look at those that will survive”, he stated.
