Ghanaian Hiplife artiste, Gasmilla christened Odartei Milla Lamptey has explained that his ‘Green Ambassador Award’ picked up at the 2020 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) goes beyond his talent.
According to him the award is given to artistes who are not using just their talent to make money or perform but are actually giving back to the society “and improving or doing something grand for humanity”.
Speaking to Nana Kwasi-Wusu (PM) in an interview on Y97.9FM’s Dryve of Your Lyfe, the international fisherman who is interested in making life better for persons living in coastal communities revealed, “I have a project called the Homowo beach clean up where I clean the coastal areas with other stakeholders”.
He mentioned that most of the waste from Ghana’s drains end up in these coastal areas and end up polluting the environment. “When it rains, plastics from these drains pollute the coastal communities and for me, we are the world and we caused the waste and we are the same people who need to clean the waste”.
Gasmilla started this clean up exercise and invited lots of other people to support him achieve his objectives. “And that is what Vodafone saw as humanitarian, they saw me doing something beyond the levels of just music but also giving back to the community” which he appreciates.
Vodafone Ghana introduced a new award “The Green Ambassador Award”. The award is not merited on the basis of music or any lyrical content but rather honours artistes who take particular interest in ensuring the beauty of the environment.
