Nigerian and Mavin-record singer and songwriter popularly known as Crayon has expressed that his love and interest for music started at a very young age.
According to him, he grew up in a family of music lovers. “My dad was an MC and also use to sell CDs on the side so I had access to a lot of albums and love sounds. My mum also used to play a lot of gospel music so I got exposed to a lot of songs growing up” he said.
Talking to Foster Romanus On e.TV Ghana’s Late Nite Celebrity Show he shared, “All this gave me access to varieties of sound right from Micheal Jackson to Styl-Plus to VVIP a lot of them. I just had access to a lot of songs”.
He stated that for him, he was just enjoying the music he was hearing while growing up and had no idea it will have an impact on him.
“I was just growing up to the whole thing and I had no idea of it influencing my choice of music” he said.
He furthered that he only noticed the music he grew up listening to had an effect on him when he started making music, “I then discovered that I could do a lot of sounds because of what I grew up listening to”.
Talking about the genre of music he is more comfortable in making he shared, “I only started making music in 2016 and I will say Afro beat has always been the foundation to my sound”.
Crayon noted that, he sees himself as a global artiste because he likes to do music from different sounds, to different genres and different cultures and currently, “I have a couple of songs with some other musicians like Kelvyn bwoy from Ghana, Kalash from France and I look forward to making more songs with artistes from different countries”.
