Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Wiyaala, Akosua Agyapong, Others thrill fans at African Legends Night

The State Banquet Hall was over the weekend (September 24th 2016) turned on fire when highlife cracker and dance gem Akosua Agyapong and South African Princess Yvonne Chaka Chaka led a team of performers to stage one of the biggest sub-regional events in Accra.
The African Legends Night 2016 Dubbed ‘Vodafone Legends Nights’, the much-hyped annual musical concert produced and presented by Global Media Alliance also featured stars such as Nana Tuffour, Wiyaala, Amandzeba, Becca and Nana Yaa. Akosua Agyapong, one indefatigable female musician who, at the peak of her career, gave her male counterparts in the world of highlife a good run for their money as promised, turned the venue upside down with a fantastic performance which has always been her trademark anywhere she performed in the country.
The female ‘Michael Jackson’ rocked patrons with songs from the mid-1990s, her sweet voice refreshing records from her Frema album, and her elaborate dance moves to match Kpanlogo, Me ye Obaa, Nye Miaa, amongst others. Afro pop singer Wiyaala also delivered an electrifying performance whilst Amandzeba, the Wogbe Jeke man as well as “Abeiku” hitmaker Nana Tuffour did not disappoint the patrons as they stood in awe as the performances went on, took to the dance floor to appreciate legendary music in bits with their partners.
Yvonne Machaka, famously called Chaka Chaka, the Princess of Africa, who rounded the event gave the audience much more than they requested! Whilst she kept it clean with her 1984 hit song “Thank You Mr DJ”, the African backside did justice to Umqombothi, Unity amongst other songs. Chaka Chaka gave shine to singer eShun when they both performed “Natural Woman” and another surprise stage act was when Rebecca Akosua Acheampomaa Acheampong known mononymously as Becca joined the two on stage to give fans another great section of the Legends night eve.
Happy FM’s DJ Advicer took care of the turntables whilst Ghana’s comedy meme DKB chaired the event, taking swipes at Nana Akufo Addo, Mahama and others as part of his rib-cracking jokes. The African Legends Night have in the past featured greats such as South Africa’s legend Hugh Masekela, Nigeria’s Femi Kuti, Ghanaian ace Saxophonist Steve Bedi, Ben Brako, George Darko, Amakye Dede and a blend of artistes across Africa.
The 2016 African Legends Night concert was well attended with guests including the former First Lady and leader of the National Democratic Party, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, British High Commissioner to Ghana, Jon Benjamin, respected Actress Akofa Edjeani and many others. The event is an initiative of the Global Media Alliance and was powered by Vodafone and supported by CDH Group, South African Airways, Awake Water, Accra City Hotel, Phoenix Insurance and Alomo Bitters.
