I am more excited about African clubs playing my songs than Hollywood stars sharing it - Focalistic

South Africa’s most admired rapper, Focalistic has placed much value on night clubs on the continent playing his song, ‘Ke Star’ over Hollywood stars hyping it.

After the release of ‘Ke Star’, it received loads of attention locally and internationally with Alicia Keys and other Hollywood stars hyping the song on their social media.

Reacting to how he felt about this, he stated, “In South Africa, we all grew up with Hollywood being pushed in our faces. It was the very first source of entertainment for us and that is it. I was pleased with Alicia keys and others posting the song and all.”

Although he appreciates the hype, he says, “For me it is all about the push we give to ourselves as Africans and making sure African sounds maintain and show unity. For me I am glad Hollywood stars played and hyped Ke-Star but I am more excited that every club in Ghana trusts the song and plays it. That is more valuable to me,” he told Y107.9FM’s Kojo Manuel, host of Dryve of Your Lyfe.

According to him Ke Star, which means ‘I am a star’ has promoted Amapiano music on the African continent especially and he is proud of that.

“People say they never listened to amapiano muisc until they heard ‘Ke Star’. These people are the real stars for opening up their minds and ears to the new sound and amapiano,” he added.

Focalistic who is surprised about how the song has been received globally shared, “We were just making a song expressing how proud we were of being from Pretoria but the people of Africa and the world have received it.
