Ghanaian Reggae artiste, Kwesi Baako, also known as Jahbeloved has said that Ghanaians do not honour music legends well enough.

He states that unlike Nigerians, Ghanaians do not put much effort to promote their own.

He made this known during an interview with Y97.9FM’s Haruna Babaginda on the Reggae Republic show when he said: “We don’t honour our music legends well enough and that is sad”.

Exemplifying his point, he shared his experience of how he retrieved less than a page information on one of Ghana’s statesman KB Asante, at a time he needed such information the most.

“I found less than a page information on a man like KB Asante who has worked from Kwame Nkrumah’s time all the way to Rawlings’ time and beyond. But you know what, Nigerians do a better job on that. Nigerians will put any information out there. In Ghana we don’t do that”.

Meanwhile, Kwesi shared that he has seen some development in the promotion of Ghana music as Ghanaian bloggers are taking advantage of social media to “study the trend and see that how they can be involved in promoting Ghana music and make a living out of it”.

The debate on whether Ghanaians appreciate musical legends has been trending since Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie intimated that he does not receive full support from the public but he has managed to maintain his relevance in the music scene.

Kwesi Baako is a Ghanaian reggae artiste based in USA and one of the frontliners of the genre here in Ghana in the early 90s. He is also a former member of a reggae band in Ghana called shirinshirinshi which was based on the Legon university campus

Kwesi managed and worked with reggae artiste like Kente, Rocky Dawuni in the 90s. He is now a solo artiste and has recorded with many huge Jamaican artiste like turbulence on his latest album Titled ‘Awake’.
