Ghana’s leading radio station for youth programming, YFM launches this year’s edition of the ultimate and the most dashing DJ battles, the “Y Clash of the DJs” on Tuesday, March 8, 2022.
The Y Clash of the DJs was birthed as a result of the YFM’s quest to entertain its listeners during the heightened period of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is a battle between Ghana’s A-list DJs across the triangle, comprising of Y107.9FM in Accra, Y102.5FM in Kumasi and Y97.9FM in Takoradi. This competition will field DJs from the YFM triangle against each other in head-to-head electrifying themed battles challenging DJs on selection, transitions, mixes, rhythm and pulse.
This year’s edition will be hosted by the 2021 Champions, Y97.9FM Takoradi in Takoradi at the Takoradi Mall during this year’s Easter festivities.
With the third edition dubbed, “One Sound, One Tribe,” the Y Clash of the DJs seeks to provide the platform to promote the uniqueness of our culture, our distinguished tourism, our high sense of fashion and everything that gives us our identity as Ghanaians through music.
Unlike the previous editions, this year’s Y Clash of the DJs will create an unparalleled atmosphere, the first of its kind. Prior to the main event, there would be mini pop-up shows at varied locations as 5-star DJs from YFM will give a glimpse experience of the actual event.
We have 6 genres that our reps are going to pick their unique numbers from. These numbers gives the order by which the Djs are going to play in each genre. #YClashOfTheDjs pic.twitter.com/aPPzBaP4pK

This year’s DJs battle will take place in six (6) rounds where each radio station will delegate a rep from their 3-member team to represent them. Each round has been labeled as; Hip Hop Reggae and Dancehall, Made in Ghana, Throwback, Afrobeats then finally Freestyle. Afterwards, the adept panel of judges will score each DJ at the end of each round.
The event slated for April, 14 will see Y Takoardi hit the tunes as first with the “Made in Ghana” round followed by Y Kumasi and Accra respectively. While Y Kumasi play the first sound for the “Afro Pop round followed by Y Takoradi and Accra, with the third round of Throwback music, Y Kumasi starts as Y Accra and Takoradi follows and gradually the rounds will unfold.
The Events Manager for Y102.5 FM Kumasi, Ernest Opoku reviewing his team’s performance last year said, “Our previous outing in the Y Clash I think we took things too technical. First, we wanted to show the judges and Ghanaians what Kumasi is all about but unfortunately for us it was the judging that went sideways. This year I won’t talk much because I’m from Oseikrom and I know what we’re bringing to this edition. I won’t also disclose my DJs because it will be a total shock to the rest of the YFM Triangle and like I said this is no joke for us, our fans and listeners will be entertained.
Eddy Blay, Programmes Manager for Y107.9FM Accra also commenting on his team’s second position for last year reiterated the quality and top-notch skills of DJs across the YFM Triangle. “YFM is full of immense quality. There is so much talent to go around and its always about the music and what happens on that night. This year the Kings of the game are coming to claim their right. So, Kumasi and Takoradi should be shaking.
While the Programmes Manager for the reigning champions, Y97.9 FM Takoradi, Agyekum Gyimah kept it simple, “The best comes from the West. People doubted our fire last year but the fire will be intensified. We are not ready to remove the crown anytime soon. Watch out for DJ Problem because he will give the rest real problems to run away from.”
The event will be streamed on all YFM social media platforms and also televised on e.TV Ghana, the official partner station.
