Ivorian Jazz Fusion Guitarist, Constant Boty, has disclosed plans to complete the final recordings of the “Kofi Anna Music Tribute” venture initiated through UNESCO’s International Jazz Day projects.
The Ivorian composer was influenced by the life and works of the late former UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan. He has since been promoting the legacy of the 2001 Nobel Prize laureate through his musical craft.
Constant Boty has been spearheading the Kofi Annan Music Tribute since 2019 but was disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
However, speaking to Y107.9FM’s Akosua Hanson on the “YLounge”, the producer shared his readiness to resume work on the legendary project.
He said, “The Shine On – Tribute to Kofi Annan project came and I’m happy that it had been endorsed by the Kofi Annan Foundation and also very thankful to Kojo Annan and the Kofi Annan family for supporting this project. In 2019 in New York, I gathered about 18 great musicians and recorded a music. We did the first part of the recording and I planned to get back to the USA in 2020 but then the Covid pandemic struck. So, I haven’t been able to do it but I’m going back in few days to complete the project.”
Constant Boty is a musician, educator and humanitarian who is passionate about using his art to make a positive difference in his native Côte d’Ivoire and beyond. He has brought this commitment to diverse International Jazz Day projects since 2014, most recently devising a two-country program for the 2021 edition divided between Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana around “Jazz, Youth and Development.” The project focuses on engaging young people in both countries through music.
