Sterling Ghanaian producer and recording artiste, Sony Kwame Owusu best known as KaySo has disclosed that he has become prominent in the music space courtesy of the collaborations and brotherhood bond he has developed with Ghanaian rap star, Kwesi Arthur.
In an interview with Y107.9 FM’s Kojo Manuel, KaySo shared that he ordinarily started record production in 2007. In time, he produced his first record for rapper Kay Mintz.
“The first artiste I made a beat for was Kay Mintz but I mean he doesn’t make music now. I made that beat with Cee Tee. So yh I was on the song as well with Kay Mint and Pee Willies. That was the first song I ever did,” he said.
Responding to his prominence in the music space, he attributed his widespread recognition to the “Ground Up” artiste as he reiterated that their relationship has brought forth remarkable sounds to the industry.
“Finding my feet in the music industry here in Ghana, I’ll say it’s from my collaborations with Kwesi Arthur. Back in 2015, I met Kwesi Arthur and we logged in the studio for like 2 years made a lot of music. Some of them went global and that’s how I got recognized as a producer mostly,” he added.
To many Ghanaians, this comes as no surprise as most of Kwesi Arthur’s songs usually came with the tag “This is KaySo from Tema”.
KaySo broke into the industry in 2017 after he was recognized for his production with Kwesi Arthur’s EP; Live From Nkrumah Krom, Vol I. The “Grind Day” song off Kwesi Arthur’s EP which featured Sarkodie and Medikal won the “Hiphop Song Of The Year” award at the 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
In a variety of genres, including Hip Hop, Afrobeats, R&B, Afroswing, Hiplife, and Highlife, KaySo has produced singles for a number of well-known artistes including the likes of Becca, KiDi, Sarkodie, Medikal, Ice Prince, Darkovibes, $pacely, Kofi Mole, Dj Mic Smith, Kirani Ayat, Wiyaala, Stonebwoy, Blaqbonez, Pappy Kojo, Cina Soul, Mugeez, Offei, and Magnom.
