Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Film Authority of Ghana, Juliet Yaa Asantewa Asante, posits parents should not create expectations for the children to meet.
According to her, children should be given the room to explore and chart their own parts, rather than live their lives trying to fulfill dreams of parents.
Speaking about her childhood and upbringing with host of Y107.9FM’s ‘Leaderboard Series’, Rev. Erskine on the ‘Myd Morning Radio Show’, she said, “I was lucky my parents and my dad especially, gave me the room to make my own decisions. My dad always told me he would support my choices which he did. He didn’t create expectations for me.”
Yaa Asantewaa’s father believed women could do all and everything without limitation. “He always told me you are my daughter and can do anything you want to in this world.”
Her artistic and daring mother also taught her a lot about life, especially things not to do, summing up to who she is now.
Although she desired her parents to be more demanding of her and her siblings, they would always choose to offer their guidance to their wards.
