Fast-rising Nigerian Afropop artiste, Guchi born Ugochi Lydia Onuoha has disclosed that she discovered her singing potential through her active engagement in church activities.
Growing up, she was a core member of the church’s choir at the tender age of seven. However, she was very vibrant and “loud” during service.
In an interview with Brown Berry on Y107.9 FM’s “Ryse N Shyne” show, the ‘Jennifer’ hitmaker believed that her unrivaled confidence at such an early age made her yearn to become an artiste.
“I started music from the church. I was singing in the choir when I was like seven years old. And the fact that I had that confidence to come out and sing in front of everybody made me know that I’m born for this. So, I’ve always been that person out of like 100 kids to come out and sing out, talk and do whatever was loud and I loved it,” she shared.
Reacting to how her parents took her decision to pursue music, Guchi furthered, “My mom did have an issue with the whole church thing but she had issues with me doing music. She didn’t want me to do music before but now she’s my biggest fan and she’s always telling me when I’m I dropping the next song.”
The Nigerian promising star is currently on a media tour in Ghana promoting her yet to be released single “I Swear” featuring Yemi Alade of her upcoming EP dubbed “Purple Diary”.
