Nigerian music star, Tems has added “Grammy Award Winner” to her enviable list of accomplishments. Born Temilade Openiyi, the Afrobeats sensation won her first Grammy at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards for her feature on Future’s song “Wait For U,” which also included Drake.
The pop sensation beat out competitors including Latto (“Big Energy (Live)”), Jack Harlow (“First Class”), Kendrick Lamar (“Die Hard”), and DJ Khaled (“Beautiful”) for the title of Best Melodic Rap Performance. The 27-year-old fan favourite just become the first female Nigerian artist to win a Grammy with this victory.
Tems, who has had a significant impact with her music in recent years, is also nominated for Album of the Year for her contribution to Beyoncé’s Renaissance. The “Higher” Singer received an Oscar nod for co-writing “Lift Me Up,” one of the songs on “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” earlier this year.
