United States Vice President, Kamala Harris is set to meet, engage and empower Ghanaian women entrepreneurs on Wednesday, March 29, 2023. This is set to be her last engagement in Accra, Ghana as discussions will centre on economic empowerment and leadership before her next African trip to Tanzania.
After her roundtable with striving women entrepreneurs, Kamla Harris is due to leave Ghana and travel to the Tanzanian commercial city of Dar es Salaam, where she will meet President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Thursday and fulfil other obligations.
Since she arrived in Ghana on Sunday, the US Vice President has met President Nana Akufo-Addo, to strengthen ties, participated in a state banquet, given a speech to young people about innovation and women’s empowerment at the famous Black Star Square and visited the infamous Cape Coast Castle – the last stop for thousands of Africans sold into the transatlantic slave trade.
Her final stop will be in Zambia on Friday to meet President Hakainde Hichilema and participate in other events. She is due to leave Zambia on Saturday and arrive back in the United States on Sunday.
Harris is the latest U.S. government figure to visit African countries, after Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, as Washington strives to counter-balance growing Chinese and Russian influence on the continent.
