My music direction is to focus on Highlife as a major genre - Juls vows to showcase Ghanaian music globally

British-Ghanaian record producer, Julian Nicco-Annan known in the music industry as Juls has vowed to showcase Ghanaian music globally as he reiterated his mission to promote Ghanaian sound and make Highlife a significant genre in his career.

In an exclusive interview on the Myd Morning Radio Show on Y 107.9 FM with host Rev Erskine, Juls expressed concern over the lack of recognition for Ghanaian sound. He attributed the industry’s flaw to a lack of intentionality in the promotion of Ghanaian music.

Juls stated, “I’m just in a place where I feel like Ghana music is like nobody is really trying to take in as much anymore. I mean I hear so many debates on social media but I’ve made a conscious effort that I’m going to do more Ghanaian setting music.”

The award-winning producer, known for blending various genres of music also emphasized his intention to showcase the Highlife genre, which he described as a major part of his production. “I know that moving on in my career Highlife is definitely a major genre for me like my production. I mean people were hearing it before, hearing the Ghanaian elements in my music but now I’m going to be very intentional and I’ll do whatever I can to connect.”

Juls, who has worked with several international artistes also revealed his plans to spend more time in Ghana to connect with the people and push the Ghanaian music industry to greater heights.

“I’m going to be coming back to the motherland quite often and I just need to connect with the people properly and then just push,” he said.
