Ghanaian entrepreneur and politician, John Dumelo has made a resounding call for the youth to recognize the significant potential in Ghana’s agricultural sector.
Speaking at the maiden edition of the ‘Start Right Youth Conference’ organized by MYO Global in collaboration with YFM Ghana under the theme, “Investment Opportunities for the Youth: Success Stories, Potentials, and Risks,” John Dumelo emphasized the untapped wealth within Ghana’s agricultural sector, which he believes remains largely unacknowledged.
He indicated that despite being well-known for his accomplishments in the entertainment and movie industry, he is committed to venturing into farming to contribute to the nation’s food security and economic prosperity.
He rejected the notion that his success in the entertainment industry would deter him from contributing to the agricultural sector. For him, the importance of agriculture transcends fame and is about fulfilling a vital role in feeding the nation.
“There’s significant potential in our agricultural sector, but we are failing to acknowledge it as a country. In as much as people may say I have attained a certain level of fame in the entertainment and movie industry, so what’s the essence of going into farming. I mean for me this is neither here or there and for me I’m here to feed the nation and make sure that people eat while I also may some small money,” he said.
Dumelo continued to advocate for the immense financial prospects that lie within agriculture, as he indicated, “There’s money in agriculture, and of course, there are losses and gains, but the good overcomes the bad.”
He highlighted the crucial role of timing and strategic marketing to achieve success in the sector. By targeting the right markets and promoting produce in substantial volumes, farmers can maximize their profits and minimize losses.
Undeterred by the challenges, John Dumelo expressed optimism about the future of agriculture in Ghana. “It’s always about times and seasons. It is where you target your market and push your produce in volumes to them. There’s money in it and the best thing is it teaches you patience,” he remarked emphasizing the cyclical nature of the industry.
With a focus on long-term sustainability and national self-reliance, Mr. Dumelo’s vision for the agricultural sector extends beyond individual gains. “I’m not only looking at the smaller picture but the bigger picture we all should consider is to get to a point where we don’t need to import a lot of what we can produce here,” he asserted.
Start Right is a MYO Global initiative that aims to educate young people about a range of topics that concern them. It serves as a forum for people who have achieved success in a variety of industries to encourage young people by sharing their experiences.
This series aims to encourage career growth, community involvement, entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment. Additionally, it offers a chance for networking and information exchange.
