Consistent with their approach to leading sports conversations in Ghana, Happy 98.9 FM is introducing a series of activities, and new segments both on radio and on social media as part of efforts to bring to the sports fraternity a credible Ghana Football Association (GFA) elections coverage.
The entire activation starting from August 8, 2023 will begin with a-50-day infographic countdown.
To enrich content and assess the performance of the current administration of the GFA led by Simon Kurt Okraku, the Happy Sports team will introduce a new segment to the show, dubbed ‘’The Wise King’’. This segment will take a critical look into the administration’s performance and also review promises it made.
Speaking about the upcoming elections coverage, Head of Sports for Happy 98.9 FM, Odiasempa Kwame Oware intimated that, in every election there is a need for voters to make informed decisions hence, the brands decision to dedicate its platforms for the purposes of information and education.
‘’In 2019, we organized the first ever GFA Presidential debate in Ghana, and this year we have an array of activities lined up starting August 14, 2023. As part of activities, we will introduce a new ten minutes segment on Happy Sports named ‘The King is Wise’.
In this segment, we will play back excerpts from speeches and promises made by the current GFA President, Simon Kurt Okraku during the Presidential debate, his manifesto launch and analyze the performance of EXCO members. We are doing all this to keep the sports fraternity, our listeners and the general populace informed,” he stated.
The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association has settled on the Redaach Memorial Hotel in Tamale for the Elective Congress on September 27,2023 at 9am to elect executives that will steer the affairs of the association and in effect Ghana football for the next four years.
The Ghana Football Association was suspended after claims, in an undercover documentary, of bribe-taking by referees and kickbacks to top officials in 2018.
After the suspension, FIFA set up a Normalization Committee to steer the affairs of Ghana football for the interim.
In October 29, 2019, Kurt Okraku became the president of the Ghana Football Association.
