Ghanaian-Britain based singer Kwamz has advised all upcoming musicians to brace themselves for episodes of setbacks within the early days of their music careers.
He revealed to Kojo Manuel, on Y107.9FM’s Dryve of Your Lyfe, that in recent times, the mode of operation within the music fraternity has changed and has brought about a whole new meaning to being successful in the music industry. “Obviously for us we did it like 10 years ago; it was not like the way it is now. Now, it’s crazy; the upcoming artist should stay strong.”
However, Kwamz noted that what remains constant within every dispensation of music artistry are the difficulties that are faced in the early days of every upcoming musician. “You are doing your thing, but you will suffer; I feel like that suffering part is definitely part of the job; if you don’t suffer at that time, one day when you suffer, it will hit you worse than you were supposed to suffer in the beginning.” he explained.
The afrobeats fanatic pinned this as the reason behind the fall of many promising acts in the industry at their prime and advised upcoming musicians to pick lessons along the way as they gradually make strides to get to the top of industry. “Imagine if you blow so big and then all of a sudden you crash down; some people can kill themselves. But if you slowly pick up what you need to learn it prepares you; when it happens to fast, you won’t be ready for pressure ahead.”
