Juma Mussa Mkambala, professionally known as Jux, a renowned Tanzanian artist and songwriter has shared insights on his evolution as a musician.
In an exclusive interview on Y 107.9 FM with host Reggie Reg, Jux revealed that he found his true calling in singing. He shared that he felt more natural as a singer than a rapper.
Despite the popularity of rap at the time, Jux found the transition to R&B a natural progression.
“I was a better singer than a rapper. The transition was not so difficult because rap at the time was doing good and I wanted to put myself into it,” he explained.
He highlighted that while anyone can rap, singing requires a unique connection and authenticity. This realization led him to embrace R&B wholeheartedly, recognizing it as his true musical path.
“Singing was just natural to me. It was a talent and it came at a time I didn’t want to use. People were just telling me anytime I sing it felt natural but rap everyone can literally rap. It’s easy and you have some lyrics you can just rap in the beats but to sing, it has to be something you have,” he added.
Jux’s journey eventually led him back to his roots in R&B. “So for me, it wasn’t difficult to switch to R&B because it was in me and everything I was trying to sing it was just coming out. So I finally came to a realization that this was what I was supposed to do for a long time.”
Jux’s decision to focus on R&B has paid off, as he has since garnered multiple accolades, including the ‘Best R&B song’ award at the prestigious Kili Music Awards, also known as the National Tanzania Music Awards.
